Pest control licenses: personal information: confidentiality

The law limits public access to personal details collected for pest-control licensing while preserving access to licensing-related conduct and status information.

What the law does ​

• Exempts personal information collected for pest-control licensing from the California Public Records Act, except when a court orders disclosure.
• Allows the Department of Pesticide Regulation to disclose an address of record unless the individual designates it as personal information.
• Allows the department to collect a physical business or home address for internal use when an individual uses a post office box or alternative mailing address.
• Defines protected personal information to include photographs, Social Security numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, and medical or disability information, but not names.
• Keeps licensing information such as incidents, violations, misconduct, commendations, and license status outside the personal-information exemption.
