Education governance: Education Commissioner: reporting

The report will track whether recommended governance changes are improving efficiency, transparency, accountability, and outcomes for children and pupils, particularly lower-performing groups.

What the law does ​

• Requires the Education Commissioner to report to the Governor and legislative policy and fiscal committees by October 1, 2028.
• Requires the report to assess progress implementing the 2027 recommendations for education-governance consolidation and streamlining.
• Requires the report to identify steps the State Department of Education can take under existing law and funding authority.
• Requires the report to identify state education activities that can be consolidated, streamlined, or eliminated, and recommend additional statutory or budgetary actions.
