Office of Elections Cybersecurity

The law strengthens the Secretary of State’s work with election officials to protect election systems and address false election information. It also requires an assessment of whether the state must replace cybersecurity resources formerly provided by the federal government.

What the law does ​

• Allows the Office of Elections Cybersecurity to consult academic researchers when developing election-cybersecurity best practices.
• Requires the office to assess whether additional state resources are needed to replace election-cybersecurity resources previously provided by the federal government.
• Continues the office’s duties to share threat information, develop incident-response practices, identify security tools and training, protect online election resources, and counter false or misleading election information.
