Dual language immersion: Dual Language Immersion Coordinator

The coordinator will help local schools build and expand programs that teach English learners and native English speakers together in English and another language.

What the law does ​

• Requires the California Department of Education to establish the coordinator by July 1, 2027, subject to legislative funding.
• Makes the coordinator the department contact for local educational agencies starting or expanding dual language immersion programs.
• Requires the coordinator to connect local educational agencies to share resources and best practices.
• Requires an online directory of operating programs by January 1, 2028, listing participating agencies and schools, partner languages, program models, and program contacts.
