Water district directors: compensation

The law raises the monthly compensation-day limit for directors of water districts serving at least 90,000 residents, while requiring public written justification for compensation above the usual cap.

What the law does ​

• Allows eligible water districts to adopt ordinances compensating governing-board members for up to 15 days per calendar month.
• Requires boards using compensation for more than 10 days monthly to annually adopt a written policy, supported by substantial evidence, explaining why it is needed for effective district operations.
• Restores the 10-day monthly compensation limit on January 1, 2032.
