Advanced Air Mobility Infrastructure Act
California will add electric advanced air mobility to its long-range transportation planning and create a statewide collaboration group.
The law positions electric passenger, cargo, and service aircraft as a transportation-planning issue while coordinating state, local emergency-management, and industry participants.
What the law does
- Requires the Department of Transportation to address advanced air mobility in the first California Transportation Plan update prepared after January 1, 2027.
- Requires a statewide working group to explore California’s role in developing and implementing advanced air mobility, related technology, economic development, and job creation.
- Covers electric conventional- and vertical-takeoff aircraft, and certain powered-lift aircraft, used for passengers, cargo, or services.
- Preserves federal aviation authority, state and local zoning rules, and airport sponsors’ and operators’ authority.
Who it affects
- Electric aircraft and powered-lift developers, operators, and supporting businesses.
- State agencies, local emergency-management offices, and industry stakeholders participating in the working group.
- Airport sponsors and operators, whose operational and development authority remains unchanged.
