Pupils: data reporting: American Indian and Alaska Native pupils
California will publicly report statewide education outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native pupils each year.
The reporting includes pupils who identify as American Indian or Alaska Native alone or alongside another race or ethnicity, addressing concerns that some pupils are overlooked in existing data.
What the law does
- Requires annual statewide aggregate reporting on the California Department of Education website beginning by July 1, 2028.
- Requires reporting the prior school year's pupil count, academic achievement, suspension and expulsion rates, chronic absenteeism rate, and four- and five-year cohort graduation rates.
- Requires use of data already reported under existing law where appropriate.
Who it affects
- American Indian and Alaska Native pupils in California public schools, including pupils who also identify with another race or ethnicity.
- The California Department of Education.
