Cannabis: labels, packaging, and advertising
California requires poison-control information and new safeguards for multi-serving cannabis beverages.
The law gives consumers clearer dosing information and discourages marketing that promotes consuming several servings at once.
What the law does
- Requires edible cannabis product and cannabis beverage labels and inserts to list the national Poison Help line’s toll-free number.
- Beginning July 1, 2027, requires multi-serving cannabis beverage labels to state that they contain multiple servings, identify the single-serving size, and explain how to measure one serving.
- Beginning July 1, 2027, requires transparent or liquid-visible multi-serving beverage containers to show conspicuous serving-size lines when accurate lines are feasible.
- Beginning July 1, 2027, requires retailers to offer a free measuring device at purchase for multi-serving cannabis beverages, supplied by manufacturers as needed.
- Beginning July 1, 2027, prohibits marketing multi-serving cannabis beverages as single-serving products or encouraging consumption of multiple servings at one time.
