Pupils: foster youth: access to pupil records
Foster youth age 14 and older gain direct access to their relevant school records.
The law lets eligible foster youth obtain records tied to their educational interests without needing parental consent or a court order. This can help them access information about their own schooling.
What the law does
- Requires school districts to give foster youth age 14 or older access to pupil records relevant to their legitimate educational interests.
- Retains existing limits on further disclosure of pupil-record information.
- Provides for state reimbursement if the Commission on State Mandates finds the new school-district duty creates reimbursable state-mandated costs.
Who it affects
- Foster youth age 14 or older.
- School districts.
