Security guards: training
Security guards may complete required skills training before receiving their state registration.
The law gives prospective security guards and proprietary private security officers flexibility to finish skills training earlier, after completing required arrest-power and use-of-force instruction.
What the law does
- Allows security guard registrants to complete security officer skills training before registration is issued.
- Extends the same option to proprietary private security officer registrants.
- Keeps the prerequisite that the person first complete training on the power to arrest and appropriate use of force.
Who it affects
- Applicants for California security guard registration.
- Applicants for proprietary private security officer registration.
- Security employers and approved training providers.
