Women’s conditions remain understudied and insufficiently integrated into clinical practice. The order seeks stronger research, inclusion, accountability, and coordination across women’s life stages.

What the order does

  • Directs NIH to establish a Women’s Health Division within 90 days.
  • Tasks the division with expanding research, replication studies, advanced technologies, interdisciplinary work, and translation of discoveries into care and public health practice.
  • Strengthens research methods for sex-specific outcomes, inclusion of women and girls in clinical trials, and compliance with NIH’s sex-as-a-biological-variable policy.
  • Establishes a White House Women’s Health Task Force led by the Health and Human Services Secretary and White House Chief of Staff.
  • Directs the task force to coordinate research, evidence-based clinical education, patient-centered care, provider and medical-product capacity, and consultation with public and private stakeholders.
  • Revokes a 2024 executive order and a 2023 presidential memorandum on women’s health research.

Who it affects

  • Women and girls across infancy, adolescence, reproductive years, pregnancy, midlife, menopause, and aging.
  • Researchers and NIH grant recipients studying women’s health and sex-specific outcomes.
  • Healthcare providers, public health programs, Federal agencies, and State, tribal, local, community, nonprofit, and private-sector partners.
