Pharmacy: enteral nutrition supplements or replacements

Patients who cannot fully use regular food because of diagnosed medical conditions can receive therapeutic enteral nutrition at their residence through authorized delivery arrangements.

What the law does ​

• Authorizes pharmacists, manufacturers, and wholesalers to arrange or agree to deliver enteral nutrition supplements or replacements directly to a patient’s residence.
• Requires a valid order from a prescriber acting within their scope of practice.
• Defines covered products as medical food used therapeutically to prevent serious disability or death when a diagnosed condition prevents full use of regular food.
• Requires delivery arrangements to meet pharmacists’ authorized services and activities and accepted standards of care.
