Local educational agencies: reports: school accountability report card: California School Dashboard: local control accountability plan: local control funding formula budget overview
California streamlines school accountability reporting while preserving core planning and fitness-testing duties.
The law reduces duplicative public-reporting requirements for schools and gives local educational agencies more flexibility on when to present annual accountability updates. It also requires a state review of overlap in school report-card data.
What the law does
- Requires the California Department of Education to report to the Legislature by August 31, 2027, on school accountability report-card data duplicated in other public sources and alternatives for meeting state or federal requirements.
- Removes annual school accountability report-card disclosures on school safety-plan status and aggregate student physical-fitness test results.
- Removes the February 28 deadline for districts, county offices of education, and charter schools to present annual LCAP updates and parent budget overviews at public meetings.
- Keeps annual school safety-plan review and updates, physical-fitness testing, individual student test-result notices, and the Department's physical-education oversight in place.
Who it affects
- School districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and their governing bodies.
- Parents, guardians, pupils, educators, and community members who use school accountability reports and LCAP materials.
- The California Department of Education and the State Board of Education.
Context
The Department's duplication report requirement expires January 1, 2028.
