San Diego Gas and Electric Company: energization pilot program
SDGE must connect construction-ready projects to its electric grid within 40, 55, or 70 business days, depending on project type, through January 1, 2030.
The law sets firm connection timelines for priority projects including affordable housing, essential-service buildings, and health facilities. It also requires public reporting on SDGE’s performance.
What the law does
- Requires SDGE to energize construction-ready affordable housing, essential-services, and health-facility projects within 40 business days.
- Requires SDGE to energize construction-ready municipal facilities and electric-vehicle charging projects within 55 business days.
- Requires SDGE to energize all other construction-ready projects within 70 business days.
- Pauses the applicable deadline when a project-specific issue prevents safe, compliant energization, until SDGE and the applicant mutually resolve it.
- Requires SDGE to include these projects in its twice-yearly energization reports to the California Public Utilities Commission.
- Repeals the requirements on January 1, 2030.
