State agencies: building and renovation projects: Green Globes certification
State building projects can use Green Globes certifications as an alternative to LEED starting in 2027.
The law gives state agencies another approved green-building certification path for large new construction and major renovations.
What the law does
- Allows state projects over 10,000 square feet to meet the standard with LEED Gold, Three Green Globes, or a higher certification.
- Allows LEED Silver or Two Green Globes when the higher standard conflicts with critical operations, security, the California Building Code, or is demonstrably cost-ineffective.
- Applies the Green Globes options to projects whose schematic design documents are initiated on or after January 1, 2027.
- Requires Director of General Services approval for use of another equivalent or higher rating system.
