Preventive Treatment Health Care Act

The law gives the state a tool to seek greater competition, lower prices, and more reliable supplies of certain weight-management drugs. Its actions require a legislative appropriation.

What the law does ​

• Authorizes the California Health and Human Services Agency to form partnerships, if needed, for at least one FDA-approved GLP-1 antiobesity medication.
• Allows partnerships aimed at increasing competition, lowering prices, and addressing drug shortages.
• Requires the agency, if needed, to establish distribution partners.
• Requires the agency to make its best effort to negotiate prices at or below what Medi-Cal beneficiaries paid in 2025.
